TEOWAD

M_ltiple w_ys of perc_iving

(Otherwise known as perspective)

In writing a book, one of the things I have definitely failed at in some areas,
but perhaps done okay with in others.
Is trying to look at things in varied different ways.

After all, I have only one perspective —but I have to pretend like I have many. Perhaps we do all have many. Maybe we just need to change our angle? our level?

I found it a puzzle, to say the least, when trying to avoid the ‘Jackie Brown’ problem.

Now that makes it sound like I have multiple chapters going over the same events from the viewpoint of different characters.

I don’t. My brain wouldn’t like that.

But the fear of being repetitive or boring still remains even if you are repeating other parts, other than the same events.

In TEOWAD I’ve repeated several c_ntexts. Well… at least I have at the moment.

After a good editor takes a long look at it, those might be the first parts to go.

But ever since I was little, back when I had fluffier edges, I’ve wanted to write a story that has its ties in sound and music. Influenced by many different songs.

And music needs to repeat.

But there is a reason why music exists, and text is something —different.

Treating the book as a song format doesn’t work —things end up more like a poem. And that’s not what I wanted.

So the repetition came out in different ways: character behavio_r, or unexplainable alignment between actions.

For example, having three characters all performing daring break-ins at the same time. Very much like the harmonising of a chorus, but each with their own interpretation.

Whether it works or not will be completely down to the individual.

And it will definitely give readers a strange idea of my character’s approach to laws.

.

I realise this is very open and mysterious.

It has to be, clearly, otherwise I would be giving too much away.

But to perhaps give a bit more detail, I have tried to write some scenes using a different camera. I have tried to approach certain events with key senses left out. I have attempted to make connections where there should be none.

Put simply.
There are elements of TEOWAD that I really enjoy,
but that doesn’t mean anyth_ng.
