Back-to-front development...

(Similarities of coding and writing?!)

A descent into how I find there are similarities between coding and writing. Others might completely disagree. To be honest, I find similarity between everything and coding. I think it is just the way my computer is wired.

I often find missing words

(ambiguous, that is)

This is a discussion —involving one person— about how I am quite risk averse but find it difficult following encoded rules set by humans. Of course, that doesn't mean rules where actual danger is involved. But more the fact that we're supposed to call the cold, grey part of existence 'January'.

Fractals!!

(And other such borrowed expletives)

Some random warblings about how writing 'The End of Worth and Distance' has been a bit surprising. Meaning that I've had to learn how to get certain concepts into the book without turning people away from the story.

How much is enough?

(And how can you be sure?)

Don't get me started on this one. I have no idea how much should be enough. I've got into trouble in the past exactly because of that. Which makes me sound like some kind of maniac. But no... put simply, I agonise over the subtlest of things.

M_ltiple w_ys of perc_iving

(Otherwise known as perspective)

The day I found out you could remove letters from words and still read them was one of those days that I still remember, like where was I when Elvis did that thing. It went a long way towards explaining why I can write 'that' and mean 'than', or the other way around. ALL THE TIME! The letters thing, not the Elvis thing.

Patterns

(and anti patterns —no, not that kind of anti pattern)

There is a reason why I chose my pen name to be Loop. Well, actually, there's a WHOLE LOT of reasons. We'll probably get into it one day, but the first and foremost is because patterns won't leave me a lone. Even if I ask them to, nicely.

What?!

(And other exclamations)

This is one that you can just skip. Skip right past. I mean, who wants to read about someone fretting over not being able to open a PDF document?? Perhaps only those tasked with the... task, of making PDFs easier to open?

What constitutes an end?

(does it need an observer?)

It's no secret —at least to me— that I love and hate endings. I took my time trying to end each book, I found that difficult. Weirdly enough I didn't find it difficult to end the series. Go figure.

The Art of Character Development

Building believable personalities in fiction

This is the area where I believe I have learned the most over the last few years. It took me a long while to settle some of my characters, and then even longer to work how they might interact with each other.

If UX in Web Apps was a story...

(It would be one in major need of serious structural editing)

This is just venting about site design, something I've been doing for a long while. I'm afraid I'm going to get more and more grumpy I get about this. Especially with the additional oldness that I'm able to achieve, and the more Vibe Coding that starts to happen.

Patterns and connections

(are we all just side effects?)

A post that focuses on my focus for patterns and how I am attempting something that I know is tricky to do in writing the 'The End of Worth and Distance' (#teowad) and 'The Eighth Configuration' series. I will most likely fail, but I have to keep trying. Otherwise, reality will just put me in a box and keep me there.

Arguments from another world

The beginnings of TEOWAD.

This post goes into how it all began, way back when. Way before self-checkouts, before the advent and abandonment of MP3 players, even before fruit started being used as branding for technology.
